National Peace Corps Association Launches PeaceCorpsProud.org Social Media Hub
Toronto, CANADA, March 1, 2016 — To commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Peace Corps, founded by John F. Kennedy in March 1961, the National Peace Corps Association (the alumni network for over 220,000 returned Volunteers) has launched a new Social Media Hub portal—PeaceCorpsProud.org—created by Toronto-based, Hashtagio social media aggregation platform that gathers, curates, and organizes online content at a central online hub for public awareness.
The social media hub, which pulls relevant user-generated content (UGC) from social media platforms across the web, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, raises awareness, fosters connections, generates support, and acts as a reference center for the Peace Corps community, including Volunteers, returned Volunteers, and supporters.
“The social aggregation platform has the potential to connect the community like never before. Peace Corps Volunteers and Returned Peace Corps Volunteers generate some of the best content on the Internet. This is the first time anyone has organized that content for public consumption, capturing the Peace Corps story in real time, from start to finish,” says Glenn Blumhorst, president of the National Peace Corps Association.
The National Peace Corps Association chose UGC for this campaign because of its storytelling power. Stories gathered from across the web capture the real events and emotions experienced by Peace Corps Volunteers—from leaving home to working in the field to returning home—and every moment in between. The content in the social hub is tagged and categorized for easy navigation and includes content linked to relevant people and resources, like news stories, blog posts, and opportunities to shop relevant products and services.
Hashtagio is a Canadian based user generated content marketing and publishing platform founded by John Macintosh and Alicia Whalen. Integrating social media content gives marketers a different approach to creating more conversation and interaction with their brand.
